Virtual Lecture: René Silvin
Join us for a Virtual Lecture by René Silvin: “A History of Palm Beach Architecture and Those Who Created It.”
The Chair of Palm Beach’s Landmarks Preservation Commission, René Silvin, will give us an insider’s view of some of Palm Beach’s history, focusing on its grand mansions, many of which have been lost. Using some 100 pictures, Silvin brings to life the stories and homes of Henry Flagler, Marjorie Merriweather Post, Addison Mizner, John Phipps, Eva Stotesbury, and others.
René’s book Villa Mizner: The House that Changed Palm Beach can be purchased at our Museum Store in the RPJ Palm Beach County History Museum. The store is open during museum hours and offers shipping and curbside pickup. Please call 561-832-4164 ext. 100.

Please pass on For Rene Silvin – Mizner lived with Singer when he came to Palm Beach at 123 Peruvian Ave. They lived with Singer’s nurse (who became his 3rd wife) whom he assigned the task of taking care of Mizner’s bad leg which he got as a boy, jumping over a fire and landing on his leg. After the Everglades was built, he lived with Singer there. Mizner had designed a very elegant apartment there for Singer. He soon got tired of all the rules, specifically the one about having no animals, especially dogs and other quasi-domesticated animals. So he bought a mule shed which was no longer used from the Royal Poinciana Hotel,. It was apparently not on the grounds of the hotel, but on Palm Beach Road (now North County Road) close to Sea Spray. He added a bathroom, kitchen and pantry.to make it habitable. He felt this was preferable with his animals to the luxurious Everglades Club. Re my question about his office if you knew anything about it WONDERFUL lecture Marion Cone
