Stories of Rescue

On the 1st Floor of the Museum

Based on the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Stories of Rescue highlights ordinary individuals–including ministers, housewives, and soldiers–who chose to intervene and rescue Jews during World War II. Despite the risks, they took heroic measures to prevent genocide. Their acts of courage will not be forgotten.

The HSPBC has added to the exhibit the grandparents of Palm Beach artist Serge Strosberg who took part in the rescue effort, Isi and Lilly Leuwenkroon, and an oral history with Eliane Strosberg, MD, Ph.D., their daughter. Eliane moved from Europe with her family to work for the new Scripps Research Institute Florida in 2005.

During September 2024, the exhibit will also include artifacts on loan from the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center to expand visitors’ understanding of the topic.

Stories of Rescue will be displayed indefinitely as part of the Museum’s designation as a Holocaust education site and its partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County.
