March is #WomensHistoryMonth, a time to recognize

March is #WomensHistoryMonth, a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and resilience of women throughout history. Established in the United States in 1987, this month highlights the vital role women have played in shaping culture, politics, science, and society.

At the Historical Society of Palm Beach County (HSPBC), we honor the pioneering women who have left a lasting impact on our community. From civic leaders and entrepreneurs to artists and activists, their legacies continue to inspire progress and change.

Join us for the fifth annual Women's History Initiative on March 18, 2025, at the Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum. This event brings together female leaders in Palm Beach County to discuss their journeys and how they measure success. The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion at 6:15 p.m. This free community event requires registration due to limited space. Featured Notable Women in Palm Beach County's History:

1. Ann Weaver Norton was an American sculptor and author of children's books.
2. Iris Apfel was an American businesswoman, fashion icon, and interior designer, known for her signature style and extravagant collections. @iris.apfel
3. Iris Hunter Etheredge was the first Black student to attend Jupiter High School in 1961.
4. Eva Mack was elected as the first Black mayor of West Palm Beach on March 25, 1982.
5. Judge Rosemary Barkett served as Florida’s first female Supreme Court Justice.
6. Mary Lupo was the first female County Court judge in Palm Beach County.

These remarkable women have paved the way for generations to come. Join us this month as we share stories like these and celebrate women's legacies in Palm Beach County.
