In honor of Women’s History Month, we are celebrat

In honor of Women’s History Month, we are celebrating the women whose stories live within the Historical Society’s collections.

Meet Sue Cordelia Pope Burkhardt through her remarkable suffragist scrapbook.

Born in Miami, Sue worked as a society reporter for the Miami Metropolis before moving to West Palm Beach, where she met and married Henry John Burkhardt. Beyond her reporting career, Sue was a South Florida local who made a national impact.

She was a leader in Florida’s suffrage organizing during the 1910s. Inside her scrapbook are materials that reflect her sharp wit, determination, and commitment to the cause.

Wild and Vivid has returned to the Historic Courtr

Wild and Vivid has returned to the Historic Courtroom. 🐆🎨

Our Artist in Residence, Helmut Koller's exhibition has reopened inside the Historic Courtroom and it is a sight you have to experience in person.

Koller is known around the world for his vivid animal portraits. His signature style, often called “Kollerism,” blends realistic forms with fearless color. Leopards, lions, and primates appear in electric blues, fiery reds, and unexpected shades that make every painting feel alive.

Set inside the dramatic architecture of the Palm Beach County Historic Courthouse, the exhibition creates a striking contrast between history and contemporary art. The historic courtroom becomes the perfect stage for these bold works.

The exhibition is now reopened and on view.
