🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Allen Trefry 🌟

If there is such a thing as a professional volunteer, it is Allen Trefry, and we are lucky he chose to call the Historical Society of Palm Beach County one of his long-term homes.

Allen first joined us after hearing a call for volunteers on local media. “I’m a professional volunteer,” he says with a smile. “I volunteer for numerous organizations. If I like where I’m volunteering, I stay. And this is one of the places that I’ve stayed.”

A native of Palm Beach County, Allen has been an HSPBC docent since 2007. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s in public administration from Florida Atlantic University. Before retiring in 2006, he served the City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department and Palm Beach County’s Health Department and Department of Environmental Resources Management.

His passion for service extends far beyond our doors, from Special Olympics and the Boy Scouts of America to SunFest, the Kravis Center, Grassy Waters Preserve, and environmental work for the Board of County Commissioners.

Allen’s advice for future volunteers?
✨ “Be ready for something different, because it’s different and you meet new people every day.”

We are grateful for the energy, curiosity, and heart he brings to every tour.
